About Us
Joan started singing lessons at age eight. Here she is at the microphone in third grade with a magic wand.
Mark started playing baseball at age six. He was a catcher. They have to yell and be heard in the outfield.
Here is Joan at fourteen with Liza Minelli. Judy’s daughter. Liza has the magic wand. Joan is under the spell.
Mark went to New York and London and did a bunch of musicals and Shakespeare. He also discovered Fred Astaire. End of story.
Joan sang and played piano at Oberlin Conservatory. She met Mark in a production of "Grand Hotel". He taught her tap dancing and they got married. Here she is at Severance Hall singing with a more powerful wand. Hawthorn wood with unicorn-tail core.
They moved to Minneapolis because Cleveland wasn’t cold enough. They started making their own shows. And carrying their own sound equipment. All for fifty bucks. On plywood pianos. They created this show there.
One long winter stretched for seventeen months, so they moved back to Cleveland to buy their "cottage for two"...and their 1940 radio microphone. Cleveland is a land flowing with music conservatories and pianists. They converted the followers of Chopin to the Gospel of Gershwin and the diabolical friends of Franz Liszt to the happy friends of Fats Waller. And the people of the land followed the airwave paths of Bing and Judy to the lost world of great songs and great piano playing. And they all lived...happily ever after.
